Chapter twenty-one

Belle

Troy never joined us in the nest in the end, and now that I've finally reached the final stages of my heat, I have no choice but to accept the cold, hard truth.

The Alpha doesn't want me.

And he probably never will at this pivotal point.

I was a fool to think he ever would.

I must have imagined the time he told me that he was glad I was back when I first got home. It's the only explanation.

As if things could be different this time around.

In the end, I am and always will be an outsider.

Maybe the guys don't really care about me after all and they will never let me join their pack bond.

It's fine…

No, it's not.

Tears brim in my eyes, and Leo stops fucking me immediately.

I'm currently lying on my back, and the Alpha does everything in his power not to crush me.

"You good, kitty cat?"

I turn away at his sweet endearment, and it shouldn't be this way. I shouldn't be depressed during my first heat.

I have my Alphas and my Omega, yet something is missing.

In the end, there is a Troy-shaped hole in my heart, and the only thing that can take it away is the Alpha himself.

But he made his choice.

A splutter bursts from my lips and damn my Omega.

She's far too weepy…

Yet I would be lying to myself if I said it was just my Omega.

There's some of me in there, too.

After all, I am a sensitive soul.

A sensitive soul who has had to do what she could to survive, and it hasn't made me harder over the years.

It's made me weaker.

On the inside.

On the outside, I am titanium. But inside, I'm a gooey mess.

In other words, pathetic.

Crying is pathetic and a sign of weakness.

Leo grabs my chin and forces me to look at him, though not harshly.

This Alpha could never be harsh with me.

"You don't need him, Belle…" he whispers, and more tears escape me.

Rian crawls closer, placing my head on his lap as he combs his fingers through my hair.

There's no missing the taut expression on his face.

He must be pretty pissed at the Alpha too, but it may be time they all found it in their hearts to forgive Troy.

He made a mistake, and he has learned his lesson.

Rian glances at Leo, and I know they're having another internal conversation.

Leo shakes his head, and Rian's face hardens.

Leo's knot is still inside me, so I can't move from my spot.

But when the Alpha begins to soften, Rian lifts me off the pillows and sits me down on his lap. "Troy will come around one day, Belle. I promise."

I nod, laying my head back on his shoulder.

It hurts, and not just the rejection.

It hurts everywhere.

My body shudders in pain, and Rian glances at Jeremy.

The Alpha comes to my aid, and now he takes me from Rian, cradling me on his lap as he purrs in my ear.

"You finally want to know what it was that my cousin told me?"

I perk up, meeting his storm-cloud eyes.
